Economic growth and quality and inclusive employment

Before diving into the subject of economic growth, I would like to briefly elaborate on the role that the rule of law and the workforce play in our economy and how this affects economic growth and quality and inclusive employment.

First, it doesn't matter how much money is pumped into our economy. Venezuela cannot achieve sustained economic growth without the rule of law.

Second, the economic growth of a country is generated through transactions, such as the production, consumption and exchange of goods and services, under a given economic system that includes the three main economic agents of a country: government, industries and families. It should be noted that this does not prevent the existence of others. Some economists include central banks and the foreign or foreign sector as the fourth and fifth economic agents of a country.

However, in this exposition, I am only going to focus on the three main economic agents of a country: government, industries and families. Now, let's briefly explore what each of them contributes to our economy.

Government

To begin with, the role of the State in its economy depends on its economic policies.

These are some of the responsibilities of the State in a mixed market economic system:

  • Ensuring fair practices in the market.

  • Design and execute strategies to improve economic activity.

  • Guarantee pension benefits.

  • Develop and administer tax policies.

  • Promote and monitor compliance with labor standards.

  • Regulate economic activity.

  • Implement the three infrastructure systems – hard, soft and critical – for the proper functioning of society or urban infrastructure.

  • Guarantee microeconomic stability.

On the other hand, it is a matter of debate whether it is the State's obligation to guarantee free access to the health and education system.

Therefore, it is important for the State to promote new incentives for production and consumption or new internal practices that guarantee the functioning, growth and economic stability of our country, Venezuela.

industries

The country's industries are responsible for the production and marketing of goods and services. That is, the investment in raw materials and durable goods that allow them to produce a new product or a final product.

families

Of the three economic agents in a country, the family is the most important. The economic activities of families are decisive for the development and proper functioning of the economy. In other words, families are the main consumers of goods and services to satisfy their needs. In addition, families spend, save, pay taxes and own the means of production and are responsible for the economic activity of a country.

The truth is that if domestic demand grows, so do production and employment levels. On the other hand, if there is no consumption, there is no production; and if there is no production, there is no employment. As we can see, the tireless engine and generator of economic value in an economy is its workforce.

On the other hand, it makes no sense that the main engine of our economy and the creators of future prosperity in Venezuela, our workers, earn precarious salaries. It is an injustice that a Venezuelan works sixty hours a week and does not have enough salary, not even to be able to acquire the basic consumer goods that allow him to live with dignity. In Venezuela, those who exercise the labor force, the more they work or produce, the poorer they are.

It is worth mentioning that the effect of job insecurity in our country is undeniable, since this is one of the culprits of the high level of misery, unprecedented in the recent history of Venezuela.

Unfortunately, the situation that our country, Venezuela, is currently going through is not reduced to the problem of economic growth; we are also going through serious political and social problems.

For this reason, promoting economic growth for the simple fact of doing so, especially under the political and social chaos that our country is currently going through, is not going to become an immediate generator of prosperity and decent and well-paid jobs, fundamentally for the poor. , marginalized and excluded.

For this to be possible, it has to go through a transformation process that allows it to become socially inclusive and sustained economic growth. In other words, an economic democracy must be created that promotes income distribution with the idea of generating a virtuous circle that serves as a tool to completely eradicate extreme poverty. And this requires political and social stability.

Therefore, we cannot relaunch the same tired and failed economic model of the past, but we must create a completely new one that not only guarantees social and economic justice, but also achieves strong upward and sustainable social mobility.

How to create quality employment

In very simple: the priority of any successful company is not its clients, nor the final product, nor the net income, nor its balance sheet, but its workers. They are the creators of the "magic" inside and outside the company. They are the protagonists of success and those responsible for achieving the established goals.

In other words, a company cannot function, much less exist or be successful, without a healthy, happy and competent workforce. In other words, employees are the company's most valuable assets or assets.

So, the best way for employees to feel heard and satisfied is by valuing the work and contribution of each one of them through the creation of massive jobs, with fair, equitable and competitive salaries.

Let's briefly analyze several strategies that I propose to generate quality employment opportunities in our economy.

In the first place, the Government must implement policies aimed at promoting inclusive and sustained economic growth and full, productive and decent employment for all those who live in our territory.

Secondly, it is necessary to implement policies aimed at the protection of labor rights and the promotion of a healthy and safe work environment, where Venezuelans have the freedom to fully develop their intellectual and creative capacity that allows them to put launching new ideas and projects for the benefit of our country.

Third, government, workers, domestic and foreign investors, and our industries must commit to working together to create well-paying, decent, healthy, and secure jobs so that employees have the opportunity to prosper economically. And that they allow them to increase their capital and have extra money to be able to save and cover other needs.

Fourth, it is important to create laws that provide for employee rights or labor rights. For example, quality job protection, health benefits, medical insurance, retirement, utilities, fair work incentives, accident insurance, protection against discrimination, paid sick or pregnant leave and job protection, paid vacations, pay utilities, fair employment contracts, right to holidays and vacations, overtime pay, among others.

Ultimately, it is essential to promote freedom of association to protect and negotiate the interests of both sides, workers and employers.

Likewise, the Government also has the obligation to promote policies to eradicate child labor and guarantee decent work for adults and quality schools for children. In other words, study houses are the safest place for children. It is there that they can learn the ethic of school work so that they can grow into competent adults.

Diversity and inclusion

Many people believe that diversity and inclusion are the same thing, when in reality they are two totally different terms. However, both are of paramount importance in creating a positive and productive work atmosphere.

Diversity is the differences and similarities that exist within a group or team of people, while inclusion is the acceptance of diversity or everyone equally.

When diversity and inclusion are practiced in a society or in the workplace, it creates an upbeat, healthy, and joyful environment. This has a positive impact on people's mood, which translates into higher performance, creativity and improved productivity.

This contributes to the development of a competitive, global, diverse and prosperous economy, in which everyone benefits. This is how social innovation is achieved and modern and advanced societies are created.

How is inclusive employment achieved?

The example of labor inclusion starts from the top. Leaders are required with the ability to implement diverse and accepting cultures, where employees can improve their personal values, have the freedom to work as a team and with people of different genders, nationalities and sexual orientations. Leaders are needed to build a work atmosphere that works for everyone.

Also, it is important to create an atmosphere of tolerance where mistakes are used as a teaching and learning tool to promote job growth.

Likewise, to create an atmosphere of acceptance and inclusion in the workplace, it is not only necessary to create cohesive work teams or have empathetic leaders, but also to have leaders capable of constantly updating their knowledge in the field.

My most sincere and profound thanks to all my readers.
